Excellent audio recorder and sound editor app
I have been using Sound Studio for a long time now; I remember buying Sound Studio 1 over a decade ago. I’m not a professional audio engineer but I do need to make high-quality voice and instrument recordings at regular intervals. In my experience, Sound Studio has always be a completely stable, focussed, budge audio recording app with many excellent sound processing features, particularly the compression and normalisation functions. This version, so far for me, has also been completely stable under El Capitan and I’d recommend it for anyone who wants an app to record sound and post-process it. The app could even function as an excellent education toll in learning sound processing techniques and their effects. I’m currently using it with a Focusrite USB-Audio interface and AKG condensor microphone.
lost presets for timing? No change?
I've been using (happily) Sound Studio for many years, in various incarnations. Until this update, I have been able to have a number of preset timers, which have been extremely useful for capturing radio programmes [programs, if you're in the US]. This functionality now seems absent, and I can only do 'one-off' timer recordings.
I may be doing something wrong, but I can still do thus successfully on the previous version, on my laptop.
I have tried emailing the developer, but had no reply.
I like Sound Studio, but would appreciate this being fixed - or an explanation of what I am doing wrong.
(The online help document still regards the application as having this function.)

Update for 4.6.1
Sadly, I cannot see the return of the presets for timed recording. This is still my preferred sound file editing application, and I get round the problem by recording in version 4.2, and editing in the current version. A bit tedious, and I am constantly reminded to update in the app store…
I did contact Felt Tip last year, and they said that they might reinstate the facility if there were enough requests. I guess I am alone in this. The online user reference still says: 'You can select a preset and then fine-tune the options for your particular setup and for the material you are recording. There are presets for timer recording and voice-activated recording.'
Sigh. I've added a star, because despite this shortcoming, I still use it.

Does one thing, and does it well
Free Sound Studio Software
I have been using Sound Studio for several years for a podcast. It does one thing, and it does it really well - and that is editing. It is the quickest and most efficient way to sound edit. The whole interface is very clean and clear. You can easily see the sound wave in detaill You drop in a marker at the start of the edit, another at the end, double click in the middle, it's blocked, command X, and it's gone. Copy and paste is equally easy. If you are used to Sony SoundForge on Windows, you will be totally at home with editing on Sound Studio. It is not a fully fledged DAW and does not pretend to be. For more complicated mixes and FX, I use Reaper - but for everday edits - this is the only one.
